At the southern slope of the Kyffhäuser mountains this one thousand year-old Salt Town is an impressive community with its abundance of historical buildings, narrow streets and little squares. Immediately next to the so-called "Leaning Church" stands the beautiful and strong Hausmann Tower, the second from the 13th century, symbol of the town. Descending into the town centre you will pass by the newly created health Spa park at the town meadow, which is after the Market Place the second main open space in the town. It is lined with beautiful town houses. Well worth a visit are the old timber-framed houses in the pedestrian area, first among these the Anger-Apotheke pharmacy, and the Zum Schwan inn. Also highly recommended is a visit of the castle (now a museum) and the other two churches in the town.
