Gabelbach Hunting Lodge

The building is found at the bottom of the Kickelhahn hill near Ilmenau. It was built in 1783 for Duke Carl August as a hunting lodge in the centre of a hunting area. Goethe visited this place and a smaller previous building many times. The museum gives an insight into the hunting habits and life of the lords of Saxony-Weimar and Goethe-s numerous activities in the Thuringian Forest.
