Schardt Palace - Goethe pavilion

This is the house where Charlotte von Stein spent her childhood. It has a festive hall with Baroque ceiling pictures. Her father erected a Rococo pavilion in the garden. From literature we know that the young Goethe met Charlotte von Stein in this house. He wrote in his diary: "Zu Frau Stein, wo der Herzog auf'm Turm aß!" (A memory of a visit mentioning the duke dining on the tower). The picture palace with the Goethe pavilion offers the visitor a time travel from Renaissance to Art Nouveau. On the Beletage (first floor) there is a collection of around 1,800 objects of historical dolls- houses and dolls, reminding of the childhood of Charlotte von Stein and the playfulness of the late Baroque period.
