Wilhelmsburg Castle Gardens

The Renaissance gardens unique in Thuringia are part of the whole castle complex, with a forecourt, rabbit garden, bakehouse, brewing house, prison tower, large and small palace, stables, chancellery, gatekeeper's house, ward. The terrace garden was laid out after 1602 during the reign of Landgrave Moritz of Hesse-Cassel. The design is dominated by elements with an Italian and French influence, such as steps, cascades and balustrades. The design highlight was the "water art" (free-standing steps with waterfall) fed by a network of pipes.
